Let’s PARTY!
The darkest days of winter are past and we are inching our way, slowly but surely, towards the light of spring. Still, the winter months can seem long and lacklustre, so let’s get together and blast the blues away—let’s PARTY!
Each March, the LDWC hosts an International Women’s Day Supper & Celebration, and this year we have a reason to ramp up the fun because we will also be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Lennoxville & District Women’s Centre. It’s time to liberate your party duds from your closets, Ladies! Feather boas, sequins, satin, lace, glad rags—whatever puts you in the mood to whoop it up—then strut your stuff down to the Amédée-Beaudoin Community Centre in the Borough of Lennoxville on Thursday March 8th and join us for a Special Birthday Bash!
Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, featuring a wide variety of donated articles. The auction kick-starts the evening by providing an opportunity to mingle and engage in some good-natured rivalry. A delicious meal is next on the agenda, followed by an exhilarating selection of scrumptious Birthday cakes. Lively entertainment, jovial company, great music, door prizes, and belly laughs are also on the agenda. And what would a Birthday Bash be without a few special surprises?
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate all women—young and old— and the immeasurable contributions they bring to this world and our community. It is a time to celebrate women’s wisdom, our dreams, ideals, and passions. It’s a time for solidarity and to renew our resolve to counter the conservative factions that would erode women’s rights in this world. It’s a time to reconnect and be energized, a time to enjoy a fun-filled evening in the company of dynamic women. This is one celebration you won’t want to miss, but seating is limited so call the LDWC soon to reserve your place!
The LDWC would like to remind our members that we will gratefully accept new and gently used items for the Silent Auction Fundraiser, which begins the celebration. Profits from the auction will help offset the cost of our International Women’s Day Supper. In order to make the evening affordable for everyone, we are maintaining the ticket price at $15 for members and $20 for non-members, but this amount does not cover the price of the meal. Your generous donations to the auction will help us finance this important mid-winter social event, as well as other initiatives throughout the year. Give us a call, or drop off your items at the Centre during the last week of February.
Do come out and have some fun on March 8th. We look forward to celebrating our 30th anniversary and International Women’s Day with the wise and wonderful women in our community!

Annual Vigil
It is tremendously important to hold an event marking the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Why? Because the victims deserve to be remembered and their memory should inspire us to work for change, to mobilize our communities to push for policies that eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
December 6th has been set aside as our National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women because it was on that day in 1989 that 14 bright young women were murdered at l’École Polytechnique in Montreal. This horrific event, an act of gender-based violence, shocked the nation and served as a wake up call to our society. We were faced with some serious questions about how women are viewed and treated in Canada.
Help us keep the Vigil and sustain this issue in the public eye. If we ignore the problem, it will NOT go away. If you want a better future for your children and grandchildren, please join us on Tuesday December 6at 5:30 p.m. at Uplands (9 Speid Street, Lennoxville borough) for an event that will include special guest speakers, music, a candlelight procession, and light refreshments.
