Calendar developed and supported by Kieran O'Shea
Each year the Centre hosts events to mark special occasions for women, such as:
- International Women’s Day – March 8
This is a collective celebration featuring tasty food, good company, and entertainment. It’s a time to celebrate the hard fought rights ofwomen, and to remember those who still struggle for justice and equality. It’s a time to gather and share some laughs.
- Holiday Hands Open House
Held at the beginning of December, this event is about community and reaching out to those in need.We collect useful items (toiletries, hats, mittens, blankets, stuffed animals, etc.) for women and their children at l’Éscale (the local women’s shelter).
- Vigil – December 6
December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. On this day, we gather to remember the 13 young women who were murdered at the École Polytechnique in Montreal and all victims of violence. This event includes speakers, music, a candlelight vigil, and refreshments. We gather together to express our collective grief, and to seek a future free from violence against women.
- Take Our Daughters To Work Day
On the fourth Thursday in April, parents are encouraged to take their daughters to work for the day. The Centre contacts local businesses and makes arrangements for several young girls to spend four or five hours at various places of employment.
